El Cantar de Mio Cid y el contexto europeo

Abstract

The article establishes a set of comparisons between narrative and thematic aspects of the Cantar de Mio Cid, and literary compositions of the European cultural context, from Byzantine and Turkish epics, or Icelandic Sagas, to Beowulf and Irish epics. Neighbouring conceptions of the medieval epic heroism are analyzed, which contribute to characterize it differently from its ancient cognates.
